There are a lot of steps that may be taken to ensure great and healthy skin. The primary step to take is to live a healthy lifestyle. A good lifestyle will reflect outwardly, not just through rippling muscles and good stamina but also through healthy skin.

Once all the steps have been taken to live a healthy lifestyle, then once can turn to enhancements. These may come in several forms: creams, lotions, ointments, teas and other beverages that aid the body in getting rid of toxins and substances that do the body no good. Some also enhance the functions of systems in order to make sure that the whole body works properly and benefits from the function of each organ and system.

Just like with food though, not all the enhancements are beneficial for the consumer. Yes, the advertisements would state that they are effective, and there is no doubt that they would have a positive effect after a few applications. But all one has to do is view the ingredients of each product to see if the whole product will be truly beneficial.

Here are some ingredients that need to be avoided.

Alcohol - any type of alcohol should be avoided. It is true that it does cleanse the skin of bacteria and other harmful elements, but it also wipes away the natural acidity of the skin. This forces the skin to produce more oils than normal to keep the skin from drying up, and that in turn reduces the resources of the skin, leading to skin aging.

Fragrances - most fragrances are synthetic, and the chemical makeup of these synthetic compounds are known to have physiological effects on the users. A lot have irritants as well. The least that you can expect from a bad reaction is a bad rash, but worse things have been known to happen,

Mineral oils - not all oils are good for the skin, and mineral oils were definitely not made to enhance the skin's protection. Instead of helping, they block the pores that make the skin breathe. The blockages may cause acne and other skin infections. As an alternative, look for natural oils. These are oils extracted from fruits.

Once you know what to avoid, then you would be able to purchase better products that would be truly beneficial for your skin. And once you have the right products, then maintaining healthy and glowing skin will be a breeze.
