A lot of moisturizers are advertised nowadays, and a lot of them purchase these products without bothering to look at what type it is; believing that if it was able to reach the market, then it must be good and tested. This isn't the case though, and as consumers we must be vigilant in looking for the best product for us. This is so that we get the best results and avoid unwanted effects.

To understand the types of moisturizers, first we have to know why there are moisturizers and why they are needed. A moisturizer is a mixture of chemicals that make the external parts of your skin soft. They achieve this by increasing the water content in the skin and reducing water loss or evaporation. A lot of ingredients go into these products, some of them natural, others synthetic. Before purchasing the product, make sure that you find all the ingredients agreeable with you, as a lot of people do not agree with the synthetic ingredients in these products.

It is also important to know the different types of moisturizers in the market, as each type is geared towards a specific effect and it very specific for the skin. This is because they try to pattern the types with the different skin types as well. To shed more light on the matter, the following skin types with the appropriate product types are as follows:

1) Normal Skin - this is really just for augmentation, since there is nothing wrong with the skin itself. These are generally light, water based and non greasy.

2) Oily skin - this skin type is more prone to acne. The appropriate moisturizer for this is what is labeled noncomedogenic. These are products that do not block skin pores and therefore do not cause additional pimples.

3) Dry Skin - these require a bit more intensive treatments as it needs to retain water a bit more than the others. Oil based skin moisturizers are the right products that should be bought for this skin type.

4) Sensitive Skin - products for people with sensitive skin are those that do not contain any dyes and fragrances. This is to reduce the risk of skin irritation while still providing the same effect of keeping the skin smooth, soft and pliable.

Be sure to choose the right product for you. And if you need any more advice, consulting with your dermatologist will surely put all your questions to bed.
