Did you know that autism can be found in 1 to 2 people for every 1,000 on Earth? Autism is a complex developmental disability that is typically found within the first three years of life. While it is generally understood that autism impacts an individual's ability to communicate and interact socially, it is evaluated on a spectrum of varying degrees of severity, therefore, making therapy and assistance just as complicated. It is for that reason that families, educators, and doctors have made strides to individualize programs for individuals diagnosed with autism. The most effective way to achieve success in education and therapy is to set-up a tailored behavior management plan. With advancement in technology and a shift in how we understand the complexities of this disability, we can turn to computers for assistance. Computers are our new way to communicate data between parties. In order to create a cohesive and consistent plan we should turn to software. After all, how can we possibly expect to cross the communication barrier with students if we cannot properly communicate their needs to the others involved with their well-being. Parents, educators, and doctors all play a significant role in the process. They should be informed of routines, goals, and work. With software for special needs, data can be easily recorded and tracked. Progress reports can be analyzed to help give a better understanding of student strengths and weaknesses. This allows for selective behavior management strategies. The extra help and encouragement will make a huge difference in the student's coping of tasks. Educators can toggle between reports and data for each student easily with software. Software can just as easily keep files separate based on the clients and provides a more comprehensive look at statistics and data. It can also be accessed on-the-go as well should you plan any field trips or educational excursions without any paper mess. You can use software to graph information for a quick glance at goals and the rate at which each new achievement is met. Another major aspect of autism intervention is skills acquisition. This type of intervention emphasizes and encourages positive behaviors as an alternative to the problem behavior. These new skills reinforce social interaction to help with overall communication and socialization. A curriculum built around the introduction of good skills can help lower the occurrences of the negative ones. The entire process will run more smoothly with such organizational tools. The one thing that is proven is that consistency of the education, repetition, and encouragement must always be present if any steps forward are to be taken. A bump in the road will only cause a set-back if you aren't prepared. Hence, take advantage of the technology available. It is for everyone's benefit that a system is put in place.
