The Fingerprint Door Lock: Biometrics and Home Security

One of the first things you learn about individuality is that anatomically, no two people can have identical fingerprints. Not even twins. So in a sense, every single person is at least a little unique. Extrapolate the idea of identification based on a mix of genetics and anatomy and you get the realm of biometrics. Biometrics are much more complex than just dactyloscopy (fingerprint identification) but at the root, fingerprints are quite easy to track. That's what makes them the basis for many biometric devices.

The technology has advanced to the point where it can be used in practical applications, such as a door lock or timeclock. But, let's focus on the security side of things. Nothing is more important to an individual than their sense of home, family, and security. We want a safe haven without the risk of having it invaded or rummaged by outsiders. It is an instinctual thing to protect our belongings and relatives.

Amazingly, many states do not have specific regulations on home invasion. Usually the perpetrators are accused of crimes like robbery, kidnapping, or assault. It is for this reason that everyone should definitely take the extra effort to find advanced home security. Biometrics are the way to go. A fingerprint door lock is uploaded with data on each family member.

Visitors can get an ID card to allow them access. The coolest thing about these kinds of locks is that they are basically tamper free. You can control many models with a remote elsewhere in your house, should you be fearful. Also, unlike with a key (where even if you revoke a person's invitation they may still have a copy somewhere) once you remove the fingerprint authorization from the lock, the person is automatically banned.

The locks are useful within the home too, not just for the entrances. Say you have a workshop or tool bench in the garage but you do not want your small children to get at them. You can keep them out by only having certain fingerprints in the lock's software. They will not be able to enter without an adult present. It adds security on a domestic level and puts your mind at ease when you are not watching them.

Biometrics can be applied for so many things we take for granted. In the future many more things will incorporate, them but at least for the time being we have a new way to guarantee our safety.
