Decorating a baby's nursery can be a lot of fun. However, it does not have to be a pricey task. Instead of looking for materials for decoration that you have to purchase, it is actually quite simple to make them. This will not only be less expensive, but also help the nursery to look much more personalized. You will furthermore have a lot of fun making your own embellishing accents. The following are a number of basic tips which you can use to decorate your baby's room beautifully, even if you usually are not the most artsy or "crafty" kind of person.
Simple And Easy Wall Decorations
Particularly when you are planning on doing most of the work on your own, it can be cheap and simple to decorate the walls in the nursery. A Wallpaper border can be very simple even for beginning decorators apply, and quite cost-effective. Or, save even more money by making a stenciled border around the top edge of the walls, or at chair rail height. All you will need is some acrylic paint like you would use for crafts, a store-bought stencil and a brush, and you can create a custom artistic effect. You might even make a stencil on your own by cutting a pattern out of clear acetate sheets, if you are feeling especially creative. If you are feeling rather uninspired you could look at a kid's coloring book for ideas. You can also use a baby quilt to decorate a wall. Simply fasten a quilt rack bar to the wall, then hang a cute quilt. Showcasing art prints, paintings or even some of your personal drawings in silver picture frames along the nursery walls is yet another way to add extra visual interest. If you have other children, you may even want them to create some of their own artwork as an addition to the nursery decorations. This is a great way to include your older children, and they will also be very happy to behold their artwork exhibited in picture frames.
Basic Window Decorations
Cute window treatments can contribute a very attractive appearance to the nursery. Though it isn't difficult to find drapes, curtains, and shades to buy, it can be much more affordable to sew your own curtains. Begin by purchasing fabric, or even a flat sheet. Purchasing a baby sheet that goes with the rest of the room's bedding can be a wonderful way to achieve a coordinated look. Sew two panels of curtains for every single window, each one being the full width of the window, so the curtains will be good and full. When cutting out the fabric, make sure you add an extra six inches onto the length and about two inches of width, which should be good enough for the top opening for the curtain rod and also the hem. Sew all along the left side and right side of each panel, creating a narrow hem. Then, sew a deeper hem on the bottom so that the window curtains will hang nicely. Fold the fabric over two times all along the top edge to create a pocket that is sufficiently deep for holding the curtain rod. Sew horizontally across the bottom and top of the folded edges, forming the curtain rod pocket. Then the last thing to do is to feed the curtain rod all the way through both of the top pockets, and hang the curtains.
Baby Photos
It's a given that a baby's room just wouldn't be a baby's room without a few baby photos in frames. Choose a few of your favorite baby photos to put in cute baby picture frames, then place them throughout the room on tabletops, walls, and shelves. Or perhaps create a photo collage to frame and then place on a wall.
So don't be overwhelmed if you get to thinking about decorating your baby's room, as there are many easy and creative ways to make the nursery look great.
