IVF is a great procedure that has been allowing many to have a child even though they are infertile. There are an estimated 10% of couples that suffer with infertility issues or problems each year and there are now several ways to help couples battle and overcome this to have a child. IV can be tricky and stressful as not only is the goal to get pregnant but it's to keep the woman pregnant to have a child. There are a number of treatments that are available nowadays but there have been a few recent studies that show that bone marrow transplants have an effect on increasing a woman's infertility. Infertility Causes There are a number of reasons as to why a woman may be infertile and can include blocked fallopian tubes and a man can have a lower sperm count than what is needed. Low sperm mobility or ability to get to the eggs can also be an additional cause. It can be on one partner's side or even both partners. Other lifestyle factors can also play into the cause of infertility. These include smoking, age, weight, chemo exposure or other chemical exposure. There has not been a connection between infertility and religion, ethnicity, or race. Bone Marrow's Nature Bone marrow is found in large quantities in the largest bone of the body known as the femur. It helps with producing both white and red blood cells. Platelets are also produced and these all are going to come from the cell's stem and these make it easier to produce cells inside the body. These bone marrow transplants are used in individuals who are battling leukemia as well as lymphoma. This bone marrow is eradicated by chemotherapy. The doctor gets donor marrow from someone that is known or an anonymous donor is used to help the patient replace the bad marrow. How it Affects Infertility There are some patients that could actually benefit from a bone marrow transplant. There was a study done by Johnathan Tilly in 2007 that stated cells that came from cells that were transplanted migrated to woman mice's ovaries meaning it could work in humans as well. It helps with stimulating the growth of gametes. There were further studies that showed mature female eggs contained only genetic material. There isn't any type of study or research that has proven showing effects of fertility drugs. Why it's Not a Viable Solution There is not currently enough evidence and research done to show that bone marrow can be a good option for helping to increase fertility. There are additional other factors that prevent this as well. One is that a matched donor needs to be present in order to prevent the transmission of disease or other illnesses. Bone marrow transplants have an average recovery period of 100 days which leaves time for infection or illness to take place. Infertility is still a common issue for many couples and today's technology and medical professionals are studying harder to find solutions that can prove to be effective.
