Infertile couples all over the world are looking to have a child but there may be a number of things stopping them from doing just that. This could be form the female, the male or a combination of both partners. IVF is a great procedure that can be an option to having a child. If a woman's eggs are not healthy enough, donor eggs can be used instead. If a woman has fallopian tube failure donor eggs are a great solution. Donor eggs are great for women who:

• Previous IVF failures

• Genetic diseases that are a concern for your child

• Ovarian reserve is diminishing

• Ovarian failure

The IVF process has seen more and more women beginning to use donor eggs rather than their own. This is especially true in women over the age of 40 simply because their eggs may not be in good enough shape to form a child. Once you hit 40, your chances of having a child diminish drastically. In the year 2005, there was an estimated 12% of IVF procedures that utilized donor eggs. IVF additionally offers the highest success rates out of all assisted reproductive technologies. Women who decided to use donor embryos as opposed to frozen eggs had a success rate of 44%.

Finding Egg Donors

Typically, you will not know who your egg donor is. There are, however, some couples who wish to know who their donors are. This is often times because perhaps the couple has used the eggs of a close friend or relative and they may want to offer updated as well as allow the donor to see the child. There may be legal steps drawn up though to set up guidelines and restrictions. Donor clinics often times have longer waiting periods as opposed to agencies, but with an agency, you may not get as good of eggs as you would if you were to go through a clinic.

There is the option to locate a donor all on your own, but keep in mind you are the one responsible for interviewing the donor. Typically when you go through a professional agency or clinic donors are pre-screened for eligibility before you choose them. That way you can ensure you are getting healthy eggs. More and more agencies and clinics are getting strict as to their guidelines to become an egg donor.

What to Expect

The IVF procedure is similar even with the use of donor eggs. The woman will still be given injections to give herself every morning to help prepare her body for the eggs. If ovaries are still in working order, then progesterone as well as estrogen will need to be administered as well. You are going to have to pay for donor eggs as well.

Using donor eggs with IVF can increase your chances of getting pregnant are a little higher. This is because eggs are typically from younger women that are healthier and if you suffer with infertility these eggs may boost your chances.
