Epoxy Floors Beautify And Toughen Worn Surfaces

Epoxy floors is flooring that has been treated with an epoxy coating. Epoxy coatings are made from a tough two part resin product that creates a hardness and elasticity to the coating. These properties can be controlled by the proportions that are combined. There are thousands of combinations of epoxy resins and choosing the right one will depend on the existing surface to be covered.

Floors take a beating and must have the durability to always look their best. When the decision to add a two-part resin flooring onto the existing floor is made, then a commitment has been made to invest in a room that will be transformed overnight. The floor can be made of concrete, metal, tiles and wood to name a few. The epoxy will adhere to all surfaces but concrete is the best.

Resin coatings provide excellent protection for high traffic areas such as automotive service facilities, airport hangars, public facilities, warehouses, commercial kitchens, bakeries and veterinary floors to name a few. Instant value is added to the floor when it has been done properly.

Microbes cannot grow on two-part resin floors when an anti-microbial component has been added to the mixture. The floors can be kept hygienically clean with the approved cleaning agents. The smooth, non-porous finish does not attract dust like an unfinished concrete floor does. It resists acids, gasoline, grease and solvents. When the surface is wet it will not be slippery because of a slip resistant, textured finish.

The most important tip to remember is to prepare the surface properly. All traces of dirt, grease, oil and sealers must be removed. All old, peeling paint must also be removed. Holes and cracks must be filled in following the directions. If the floor is new concrete it needs to cure 28 hours first. Once cleaned and filled in, the surface has to be roughened so the two-part resin will adhere. Acid etching is one technique that is used to accomplish this.

Very attractive treatments can be added to the two-part resin coating. Marble chips or quartz can be added to the fluid to give an excellent first impression of the facility. Utilitarian venues take on a stylish touch that can be color coordinated with the decor. This gives a positive reflection of the establishment. Customization can also be done such as adding logos in the floor.

One of the hardest decisions to make regarding resin treatments is choosing a look amongst all the possibilities. Often it helps to speak with an interior decorator who can help point the client in the right direction in terms of look and feel. It is not necessary to get too immersed in all the looks but rather to decide on what blends in with the overall venue.

Epoxy floors are self leveling and need about a day to cure. The product comes with guarantees so it is reassuring to know that the product has been tried and tested. The life expectancy of epoxy floors will vary but basically just a top coat will need to be added every few years.
