IUI is a method for couples to try to get pregnant. This procedure helps with increasing the chances of getting pregnant. Infertility leads a couple to looking into several carious ART methods and this is one of the many. There is research showing women become more and more infertile once they hit their late 30's and older. Before deciding on this option there are a few things your doctor needs to do to help determine what method is right for you. Preparing The fertility doctor will prescribe the woman fertility drugs to take for a few weeks that are going to help prepare her body as well as to help stimulate more egg production. Your doctor will monitor to watch for ovulation signs and this is typically done by way of transvaginal ultrasounds. This is going to allow the doctor to monitor the follicles as well as the ovaries. Your doctor may want blood tests to help with monitoring and watching for an increased level of hormones such as estrogen. Your partner will be ordered to give a sperm sample. This should be done and returned to the clinic within a half hour. The sperm takes about 2 hours to be processed for the IUI procedure. Increasing Your Fertility If you are using an at home kit you should set up an appointment. Take in your positive test and your doctor should do an IUI procedure shortly after your positive test. This should be done within a day of your test being positive. You will receive injections of the HCG hormone about a day before your procedure. This hormone helps you ovulate. You may want to have more than one IUI scheduled since research has shown many couples need more than one round. After the IUI is performed you should begin having intercourse with your partner as long as it is permitted by your physician. If your partner happens to have a lower sperm count this can help increase the sperm that is in your uterus. This in turn helps increase chances of possibly getting pregnant. Thing to Watch For You may notice some spotting and this is normal. If you notice anything heavy or not normal you should contact your doctor right away. There is also reflux which is where liquid may begin leaking out of your vagina which comes after your procedure but again this is normal. To know when you are ovulating, you will begin noticing an increased amount of liquid coming from your vagina. In order to check to see if your body's temperature is rising, there are basal thermometers that you can use. This is another thing to let you know you are ovulating. After your IUI procedure you will be scheduled to go in two weeks later to help determine if you are pregnant or not. There are several procedures that are going to help with increasing your fertility and your doctor will be able to help you determine the best option for you both physically and financially.
