Paint Supplies For Painting A Room

Finally ditching the barren white walls for a pop of color? Before you start splattering paint on the walls, you'll need the proper paint supplies. It's also good if you know a thing or two about what types of paint to purchase and how to properly apply said paint to the walls of your room without creating a mess.

The most important paint supplies are the paint brushes and rollers. Without quality tools, or even the right items, your paint job will quickly become a tiring hassle. Using the wrong brushes could take you twice as long and make the room look poorly painted. For painting large areas you'll definitely want to add a paint roller to your paint supplies checklist. Just using brushes would take hours. Don't forget the paint tray and roller handle to go along with it. Buy a full width roller for walls and ceilings. Smaller swaths are good for tight spaces and doors.

When it comes to paint brushes, a quality brush has a high percentage of bristles to hold larger amounts of paint. There are numerous types, so always make sure you're using the correct one. A china brush should only be used with oil-based paints. Synthetic brushes, which include nylon and polyester blends, should be used with latex paints, while natural brushes made from animal hair can used with oil-based paints too. Bristled paint brushes will leave a slightly grainy texture. While foam brushes will provide a smooth texture, they are better suited for painting small areas. They are also considered disposable and can tear easily.

A nifty tool to have is a painter's 5-in-1 tool. This is a must-have for cleaning rollers. The circular blade will scrape off extra paint -you can have up to half a cup still remaining on the roller! Spend the money now, save money later with this device. A stepladder and a dropcloth are a given. Don't get stingy and just lay newspaper down. Paint WILL seep through. Tarps can be easily purchased at any builders hardware store. Blue painters' tape will separate colors and keep paint off unwanted space.

Before painting, thoroughly prep the room. Remove all items that you can and cover the rest. Remove any and all hardware like electrical outlets, hinges, doorknobs, etc. It's also important to clean the room of any dust so it does not blow onto the wet paint and cause bumps. All surfaces to be painted should be nice and clean.

With paint supplies in hand and a clean, prepped room, you can begin adding color and life to your walls.
