Unique Furniture For Tiny Spaces

When most of us move into our first apartment or purchase our first home, it's usually not our "dream home." The space is small, but its ours. We may not have the luxury of living in a mansion, but at least we have a place to call home. Decorating that small space is another story though. We have to make due with the space we have while still managing to fit in entertainment centers, coffee tables, end tables, and sectional sofas!

First you must learn to only incorporate the items you really need into each room. You love the end table you found at an antique shop but it just won't fit with the coffee table in the room too. It can be a difficult decision, but ponder what you need and not what you necessarily want. Eventually, you can own the perfect house with the white picket fence and fit it all in neatly.

For now, settle on versatile furniture with a purpose, or two purposes. Instead of coffee tables, you might want to consider oversized ottomans instead. With a small piece of glass or a cute tray table, you can store items on top. While you're at it, make sure it's a storage ottoman too so you can fit blankets, books, and remotes inside. A daybed can serve as a couch, drop-leaf dining tables double as desks, and folding trays can be used as side tables.

Clutter never looks good no matter how large the room, but it will be ten times worse in a tiny room. Everyone enjoys a good nick-knack or do-dad, however, keep it to a minimum. A vase here, a picture frame there, and a statue on a side table. Look for lamps that have sculpture designs -which goes back to the previous lesson! Fewer items will make the space appear larger than it actually is. Don't be afraid to use bright and bold colors. It will feel homey and lively. Small rooms can have just as much style.

When buying furniture and décor, decorate vertically rather than horizontally. Don't go for the wide entertainment centers that take up an entire wall. Choose one that offers space above and below the television rather than to the side. Shelving units can go all the way up to the ceiling. Also utilize the walls to free up space on the floor. Floating shelves will do wonders for any room, whether it be a bathroom, bedroom, or living room.

With a little bit of creativity and sensible shopping, you can have the furniture you like without feeling cramped.
