We had long developed the perfect cookie and were looking for ways to market its tastiness as best as possible. Ours is a thin animal-cracker type cookie, but in the shapes of more exotic animals, such as panda bears and iguanas and the like. They are organic too, which is another reason we stand out from the competition. As a result our niches is higher-end health food markets. In looking at how to market our product we thought about many different ways of snack packaging. The traditional plastic in a cardboard box with the flaps that tuck into each other is one of the cheapest ways to market cookies, but we wanted something different. We wanted our cookies to say to the customer, Hey, look, we're organic and better tasting than the other animal crackers out there. We're exotic and it's no gimmick, our animals are more wild than the rest. With all-natural ingredients we make better tasting cookies that are better for you and are more fun to eat. In order to convey that message we started looking at flexible packaging. Stand up pouches are some of the most flexible packaging out there. They're also re-sealable so that the cookies won't go stale, because how many moms have been forced to throw away a box of cookies when they realize they're more than a week old already. The wasted money spent on new cookies would be much better spent on better packaging. Plus, stand up packaging can be set on shelves and it looks more attractive since it's shiny and metallic. Stand up pouches are much more appropriate to the 21st century than the cardboard boxes of yore. We decided upon laminated films and knew that we had made the right choice. Snack packaging, like all things, changes. It's important especially as a small business to embrace those changes, rather than be stuck in the mire of yesteryear. No one wants to buy products that look fusty and old. Since we've started using flexible packaging we've seen our sales numbers grow dramatically. Profit margins are up and we've resolved to continue using laminated films since we've received letters of thanks such as this: To Whom It May Concern, My son loves your animal crackers! His favorite animal is the Siberian Tiger. Thank you for using flexible packaging. I can store the cookies in my bag and they don't get crushed. And they are always fresh! We're glad to have discovered your cookies - keep up the great work! Sincerely, Debbie
