When it comes to buying uniforms for girls, it can seem a little daunting. You want to make sure your daughter is set with all the right pieces for her first day of school. Whether she's in elementary school, junior high, or high school, it's important she's prepared and follows school guidelines with dress code. Take it from the experience of someone who went through the Catholic school system, you want to make sure you are well prepared just in case! The first thing you need to look at is school uniform shirts. Consider how many color options you have. My old school allowed blue and white button downs, but some schools want just white shirts. Make sure you buy the appropriate color and get at least two long sleeve and two short sleeve, so that they can be comfortable in any weather, and if one is in the wash they still have another to wear. With girls school skirts, make sure they are the right length. They have to fall on the waist, not the hip, and still reach whatever length your school suggests (usually to the knee or ankle). Make sure you measure your child correctly across the waist so the skirt fits snug but not so tight that they can't tuck a shirt in. It's good to get at least two pairs of skirts, three if it is the only option. If your daughter has the option of wearing pants as part of her girls school uniform, then make sure you get at least two pairs. Often they'll come in a lighter cotton fabric for warmer weather and wool for colder weather, so one of each is great. When it comes to socks, make sure she wears dress socks, knee highs, or tights. White socks and colorful patterned socks usually won't work, so keep it all neutral colored; navy, gray and black. Sometimes it's okay for them to wear school colors, so check with the school if those maroon tights are allowed because it's part of the school's emblem. Sometimes new uniforms for girls can be a little stiff right out of the packaging, so running them through the wash once before the first day of school is a great way to make them softer and more comfortable for your child. They'll be ready to go with their new uniforms and their school supplies, ready to soak in the knowledge!
