Power bills may break you sometimes. If it would seem that all your bill does is continuously climb just about every month, then you obviously must make a number of changes. Today we're going to give you a number of hints that won't even cost much and will help to know how to save on electricity.

Open up your home; don't always keep the windows closed and the AC on. If it's a nice day out, why not open up the curtains. This will not only save on the AC running to keep it cool in the house, but will also save money on lighting. Why would you make use of lamps and overhead lights during the day when all that natural sun is coming down? It seems like a very simple thing to do, and it is, but so many people will still keep their homes shut up during these nice days, when they could be saving some money.

Hook up computers and other electrical devices to a surge protector. Studies show that even if you have these electrical devices turned off, they will still absorb and use up electricity. By using a surge protector that won't cost you a bunch of money, you will be able to completely turn these devices off and save some money on the bill each month.

Buy newer appliances and ones that have a sticker on that say they are energy efficient. These appliances have been tested and proved to save on the electricity that they use. Though it will cost you a bit of money if you need to replace just a few appliances you can do it a bit at a time, and convert all your appliances over.

Turning the thermostat on your heater or AC to a higher or lower setting. If you in the summer months some people will constantly keep their homes around 74 degrees. Switch that temperature dowmn to say even 70 degrees; it's not much of a change. But it will save you in money. The same theory should be applied to the winter months, and if you get cold from the change just add on some clothes.

Change out your old water heater for a new tankless water heater. These are said to save up to 35% in energy use over an older water heaters. Plus it will also help to save on those water bills. A tankless water heater will instantly heat up your water, while an old water heater will constantly keep heating up the water all day long.

Turn off lights in rooms where you are not in. Kids have a tendency to leave lights on all over the home, get on them and tell them to start shutting off the lights. It is amazing how much such a little thing can add up to in a month.

As you can tell most of these ideas will not cost you a cent. But they will help to lower the bill for electricity. Money saved can be used to purchase other things, like those energy saving appliances or more clothes!
