Home Security Systems - More Than Just A Watchdog

Dogs are said to be men’s best friend. Apart from this, most people find them very helpful in protecting their homes. The term watchdog wouldn’t probably exist or last till today if they didn’t prove to be great at guarding both people and properties. Since technology has improved considerably in recent years, lots of people turn to modern methods in protecting their houses. For that reason, is it better to opt for a good home alarm system or get a watchdog to keep an eye over your property?

There is no doubt that anyone would feel scared if they saw German Shepherds or Dobermans roaming around someone's house. People who own such breeds use them as a perfect way to scare burglars knowing that this would certainly deter them from breaking into their property. Little do they want to risk being attacked by these big watch dogs.

But, it is not atypical at all that even a dog might be stolen by a burglar, and it is mostly the case with the watchdog cowering somewhere instead of attacking the intruder. However, this is definitely unlikely to happen if you have a German Shepard or Doberman. So, if you are planning to take a dog to protect your house, you should opt for the one that has been trained as a watchdog.

Sometimes, it may even happen that your watchdog attacks innocent bypassers. Certainly, this is another disadvantage and if this is the case, it implies that you will have to pay for the treatment. For that reason, you are advised to make sure that your insurance company covers these kinds of situations.

There is no doubt that a house alarm system is a great technological innovation. Though it usually entails monthly expenses, what you get in return is constant surveillance, with lots of motion detectors sensitive to the tiniest of movements.

Besides, there are some types of alarm systems that are connected directly to the local police and fire department, which send their staff right away if there is an emergency. Another good aspect of installing a home alarm is that it may raise the value of your property, in case you ever plan to sell it. Most people consider safety to be their highest priority. Due to that, houses equipped with good alarm systems will be more expensive than those that do not have it.

However, a bad thing related to security systems is false alarms. Some countries have introduced false alarm penalties in recent years, so it would be a good idea to check your system twice to make sure that it doesn't trigger false alarms.

Having a home alarm system installed or keeping a guard dog is usually enough for the protection of your house, but a better option is to have a combination of both.

By installing home alarm systems you will provide a continuous supervision and monitoring of your house while watchdogs will create the intimidation effect. 0nce you have chosen this kind of home security you can be sure that you have protected both your place and your family members against any burglars, especially while you are not around.
