Construct Your Very Own Windmill At Home!

You might have seen movies on television showing beautiful farms with windmills. Did you ponder whether you could use windmills for home made electricity? Yes, it is definitely possible to produce electricity at home using windmills.

The structure might seem complicated at first. But you will be surprised to find that the process is quite simple. Just get information about the parts of the windmill and the tools required and you are off to a great start!

Residential Wind Turbine - Power Generation at Home

A windmill for generating electricity at home has 3 main parts: - A tower for the purpose of elevation to garner the force of wind - The base for holding it steady - The blades for generating the wind power needed for your home

The Fundamentals of Windmills For Homes

The tower has to have an approximate height of 5 feet. It can be built from the usual PVC piping or 2 by 4 lumber. The main purpose of the tower is the elevation of the blades so that they can catch the strong winds. Yes I know, it's starting to seem too simple to be true, but it actually is quite simple!

Approximately 30 pounds weight is necessary for a strong base of the windmill. You can provide this with concrete bricks or sandbags of equivalent weight measuring 18 square inches. That should be more than enough of a base to hold the entire windmill in place - especially during those heavier winds!

The next step is to make the blades which are responsible for producing electricity using the wind force. Usually windmills have five blades and their length varies from 1 to 3 feet. The most appropriate and cost effective material for making blades is PVC.

You will also have to ensure that you have a proper place for the windmill. The amount of space needed will depend on the amount of energy you want to produce. More energy will probably mean more windmills or a single, higher windmill with longer blades. You will also have to provide sufficient space to the windmill so that it can harness the winds properly to produce power.

The motor that you need to run your own windmill can come from eBay or one of those sites. Generally, a treadmill motor is a popular choice for providing power to home made windmills.

You now know that a windmill only requires some simple materials. In fact, they can be sourced from your garage. The only other requirements are a bit of common sense and sufficient space in the yard to facilitate the wind flow.

Once you have enough time and the right source for the materials needed, you can build your own windmill with ease. You can now consider yourself among those people on the farm in the television movies. Your energy consumption costs will plummet significantly and your home will still be powered.

If you have made up your mind to construct your home made windmill, it would be wise to access online information from the "how to build windmills" sites available on the Internet.
