Basic Tips On Self Defense for Women

When it comes to self awareness and self defense techniques, many women don't realize how easy it can be to learn just a few things that can keep them safe. I myself was mugged when I was younger and from that day on have always exercised more caution and have taken to learning a few different steps in case someone should ever attack me. Hopefully it will never have to come to that for anyone, but it does happen. Whether it's just being alert when walking alone or knowing how to get yourself out of a more dangerous situations, it makes a difference to know self-defense.

To avoid even getting involved in an altercation, you can practice some basic self defense for women. One is to walk with self assurance and confidence. If you look like you are comfortable and aware, you are less of an easy target. It's much easier to grab a person who walks with their head down who's not paying attention to their surroundings, or who shuffles along, than someone who is standing tall and aware of what is going on around them. Don't do other things while walking, like looking through your purse or texting on your cell phone. Not only are you advertising things a person could potentially steal, but you are distracting yourself from what is going on around you. A pre-occupied or distracted person is an easy mark for a bad guy!

It's also very important to trust your gut or your internal alarm . If you feel like someone is following you or watching you, get yourself out of the situation any way you can. Duck into a store and immediately draw attention to yourself but letting a worker know someone is following you! Or cross the street and head to an area where other people are gathering or where (if at night time) it's very well lit. Fear can be a gift if you understand it and respect it; we feel it for a reason. Don't push past or ignore the fear because it may be telling you something important.

If you are approached by someone, some common self defense for women tips would be to try to hit your attacker in a couple of main areas. The first and easily targeted area would be the knee. If you can hit the knee in the front or the side your attacker would be immobile allowing you a window of escape! The second life-saving area to strike would be the eyes. Because with out sight there isn't much a person with harmful intent could do to you. Scratching, clawing or poking directly to the middle of the eyes is your best avenue of defense.

The third, and most vulnerable area is the throat. Hitting, punching, chopping or grabbing the throat will disable an a aggressor instantly. Because it is so fragile it takes less than 6 pounds of pressure to crack or do serve damage to the throat or trachea. That as much pressure as you clapping your hands together. So a tight fist thrown with force directly to the middle or side of the throat area can be the difference of saving your life.
