Whether you're a movie buff or a video game nerd, chances are you have a huge stack of gadgets, gizmos, and media lying around your television. With the right storage, you can remain organized without sacrificing too much space and stay in line with your home décor. Entertainment centers come in several sizes and designs, but with a little research you can find the right one for your home. Before you even start to look at entertainment centers, think about how much storage you actually need. You definitely want a little extra room for your growing collection of movies or games, but try to be realistic. Bigger is not always better. Do you also plan on using your entertainment center as a storage space for books? Look for units with bookshelves too. If you're the type of person who is continually upgrading TV sizes and adding new equipment, try to find entertainment centers that allow you to add extra storage pieces. Those who like a little feng shui with their furniture need to purchase a unit with cabinet doors that hide the TV. And lastly before you venture out, measure, measure, and measure. Not only does it need to fit in the space, it needs to be able to house all your stuff! There are three main types of entertainment centers. The first is a wall unit. This is the style people typically associate with entertainment centers. They lie against a flat wall and have tons of space above, below, and to the sides. Multiple shelves provide ample room for speakers, DVDs, CDs, books, consoles, and anything else you can think of. They provide the most space, but also take up a lot of space. Corner units are exactly what the name implies. They are significantly smaller and fit snuggly into the corner of a room. Most have ample shelves below the TV and some above it. People tight on room will appreciate this model. Finally there are expandable units, which I brushed upon before. These are similar looking to the wall units but you can configure them -sort of like a jigsaw puzzle. They're often a little bit more money but they'll be worth it in the long run when you decide to upgrade your TV or add on to your system. Being able to customize them also allows you to maximize the room space. After choosing a type, remember to keep in mind the style and colors of the room. Entertainment centers can blend in beautifully and don't have to look clunky and overbearing. With the right entertainment center, your den/command center will be complete.
