When the shadows lengthen and the breeze picks up there are plenty of things to look forward to. Everyone feels the descent of the year, and they want to start dressing for it. New clothing means new attitudes and after you read this article you'll know how to impress this fall. It's about confidence, as always. But we want to dress up a little more, add a splash of color here and there, and discover some old styles in new materials. Take the turtleneck for example. You can do more than a simple black or navy one (think royal blue or red), and it should be tailored and tapered to your body. Fine knit turtlenecks are a great investment and they're practical to wear under an overcoat. When it comes to suits, think brown tweed. This season's crop is lighter and well cut. Or go double-breasted. This classic power-jacket is being worn unbuttoned this season, in lighter materials. Track suits used to be all the rage in the '80s, so it's about time we brought them back. But you don't have to rock Adidas with them. This year's styles shouldn't even have a logo, so you can feel comfortable when wearing them outside the gym. If you want to relax in a collar, choose a flannel. Go for a thick, bright colored one. Heck, go for two or three even. It's nice to have some diversity in your flannel collection. Pants-wise, it's nice to have a pair of white pants, but make sure they're thicker - corduroy is perfect. And to avoid wisecracks about Labor Day, top it off with something heavy, such as a thick sweater. The color of the season is salmon. Perfect for the fair-skinned, a salmon-colored dress shirt reminds us of the pastel pinks worn in warmer months…alas, we get our warm hues where we can. If it's cold out, layer it with a v-neck sweater. Cashmere, merino wool or even silk are great materials to try on. And over that, put on your camel coat. Because that bad boy never goes out of style. With all the layering, don't forget what goes on your wrist. A Wittnauer watch, or Bulova watches or Tag Heuer watches are all great investments. If you can't afford luxury watches, get a bracelet in cord or leather. Top it all off with a pair of tortoiseshell Wayfarers and you will feel like you're ready for anything.
