A Sunglasses Disquisition

People with light eyes are more sun sensitive, which is why, as a blue-eyed boy, I've always had a pair of sunglasses at my disposal. The lack of pigmentation causes more light to enter the retina, but a pair of sunglasses helps to block it. I remember when I was younger, at times when I didn't have sunglasses around, I squinted so hard I only saw in slits. There are pictures of me squinting into the sun, when the photographer made me take off my glasses, and you can only see my bulges of cheek and the little shadows under my soft prepubescent brow.

I didn't have the money personally to afford discount designer sunglasses when I was young and neither did my family, and even if they did, it probably wouldn't have been a good idea, since there are so many ways a young kid can break sunglasses. Instead I had cheap aviator sunglasses I bought off the beach, and which usually lasted me a season or two before they became bent and crooked, unable to sit on my nose properly.

I had one pair with light blue lenses. They were only ten dollars but boy they were some of the cheapest best sunglasses I've ever had. Even when they were crooked I wore them. It wasn't until the arms broke off I had to throw them.

Today I'm an adult. I can afford nice things, and take care of them so they last for a while. I have a pair of Ray Ban aviators, which I use when biking or at the beach, and I also have a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses, which I use when wearing a suit, or when going out on the town for brunch. I love them both and I often receive compliments on them. I think I like the wayfarers better, deep down, but don't let the aviators hear that.

There are plenty of people who enjoy wearing discount designer sunglasses, and I'm one of them. They're a necessity if you want to prevent cataracts, which can make you look like an old dog, and cost a bundle if you want to remove them.

So if you are an adult, think about investing in a quality pair of Wayfarer sunglasses. You can start a collection of discount designer sunglasses. Or if you're harder on your stuff, stick to the cheap ones you can buy off the beach.
