Fall Tabletop Accessories and Other Décor

Fall is just around the corner and when the weather cools down and the leaves start to fall, it'll be time to rearrange the home and decorate with softer colors to celebrate autumn. Now's the time to pick up your new tabletop accessories and centerpieces or pull the old ones out of storage. With a bit of rearranging and some new pieces, your place will just radiate that great feeling of fall.

When it comes to tabletop accessories for the dining room table, change those bright colors for softer ones. Change the table runner and placemats to greens, oranges, soft yellows and browns. You can find plenty of pieces that have those fall leaves on them or pumpkins and the like, but sometimes it's fun to just mix and match solid colors on your own to get that feel without needing the patterns. Wooden or dark bamboo place mats are also a great choice instead of typical fabric mats.

You might want to look into a new flatware caddy and napkin holder. You can switch from a typical silver style to something in a wood, for the natural look that reminds us so much of the trees and changing leaves outside. A flatware caddy chest would be a beautiful piece in the middle of the table, giving that old world feel.

You can decorate with other little additions, like a pumpkin (real or fake will work just as well), ears of corn, or a vase full of red and orange flowers. Candles are also always a great way to set a mood. If you get scented candles, try ones with a bit of a spicy smell, fresh vanilla or festive fragrances like apple pie. Fall is all about warmth and candles will really help relay that feeling to your guests.

The nice thing about transferring from summer tabletop accessories to fall designs is that you can still keep all your basics. Carry over the flatware and the plates, the photo albums you have set upon the table and the glassware. You can get themed versions of all these things, but you certainly don't have to. Save yourself the money and keep what works, changing only the more design-heavy pieces.

Get prepared for autumn now so that when Labor day comes and goes, you can change the look of your dining room in an instant. You'll be ahead of the game and your guests will be wowed when they come over for that dinner party in late September.
