How to Choose the Right Climate Control Storage

So you need to store some things. Whether they're trinkets your mom passed on to you or old video game consoles you just can't throw away but you never actually use, you've been looking into climate controlled self storage as an option. And it's definitely helpful to have your things stored securely in another location, instead of taking up space in your home. But there's quite a bit to consider before signing up for the first climate controlled storage unit you see.

First, you need to decide how much space you need. If you are storing small things like comic books and Christmas ornaments, you'll just need enough space for the boxes you are storing. But if you are planning on storing larger items like furniture, you'll want something larger. For a basic idea, the smaller units tend to run about 5 X 10 feet and can hold about the contents of a single bedroom, if tightly packed together. Another common size is 10 X 10, which can hold the contents of about 2 bedrooms. There's also even larger storage for special storage like cars or boats. Take time to see exactly how much you need.

Also consider how long you'll need your climate control storage. If it's a short amount of time, you might want to be more aware of the monthly fees, especially if you don't want to be spending that much over a short amount of time. If it's going to be long term, see if you can get a longer contract rather than pay monthly. Every company is different in what plans they offer, so shop around.

Find out all the terms and how much the deposit in your climate controlled storage is going to be. You should know everything up front before signing anything for your unit space. Ask all the questions about pricing, access, and security.

Speaking of security, you need to be able to take a look at the facilities and see what security they offer. Ask about the locking system on the door, if there are cameras, fences, and extra security guards. This truly matters with the kind of items you may be storing. Even if it's emotional value over monetary, you don't want anything to get stolen or you'd be heartbroken.

Make sure you check out every detail before you choose your climate control storage. You'll feel better knowing you got the right size in the right location for the right price.
