When it comes to dancewear, there are a lot of different brands to look through. But one of the most popular is Capezio dancewear. It's been used by many famous dancers and celebrities for various performances and is a name that is often synonymous with well made and comfortable gear.

Capezio dancewear was founded in New Jersey in 1887 by Salvatore Capezio. He opened his first shop by the old Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. He started his business as a cobbler, repairing shoes for local dancers and entertainers at the Opera House. At one point he had to make an emergency pair of shoes for Jean de Reszke, a popular Polish tenor that often performed at the Opera House. After that point, Capezio decided to go from repair to actual shoe making. It soon became the spot for dancers to get new shoes made especially for them and became so well known that dancers from other countries were making a point to stop by and get a pair of Capezio shoes.

By the 1930s Capezio dancewear was being used on Broadway as a staple. Major stores like Lord & Taylor and Neiman Marcus were selling Capezio shoes. In 1952, Capezio received the Coty Award, which is the highest accolade one can get in the fashion industry. There is even now a Capezio Dance Award, created to honor those that have made a lasting contribution to the world of dance.

There have been many famous performers and dancers who have used Capezio dancewear. Gregory Hines, Liza Minnelli, Debbie Allen, and Fred Astaire are some classic names. But even more modern performers have used their products, like Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Nicole Kidman and even Will Ferrell. They've also been prominently featured in films like Chicago, A Chorus Line, Caberet and All That Jazz.

Capezio now has a worldwide reach, with hundreds of dancewear stores and websites selling their items. They have gone from their small beginnings of just shoes to leotards, tights, accessories, dance belts and more. They are well known for their comfort, durability, and having a large selection for any dancer, new or experienced.

It's easy to see how Capezio has become such a name in the dance community. With strong roots that date back many years, to accolades and strong recommendations from celebrities and highly idolized dancers, the company has a rich history that people know they can trust. Capezio dancewear has lasted many years and will continue to last for many years to come.
