How to Choose Discount Digital Cameras

When it comes to buying discount digital cameras, there's quite a lot to look at. You can't just take any one off the shelf and hope for the best. It's good to look into different features and designs so you can figure out which one works best for you.

The first thing you should know when buying discount digital cameras is all about megapixels. They are the one thing most advertised but if you don't know what you are looking for, you aren't going to understand the numbers. A million pixels equals one megapixel. The overall number for the camera tells you how many pixels one picture from the camera has. It can also help determine how large a picture can be before it starts to look pixelated. 8 megapixel cameras are about standard and are good if you want to make poster size prints, or crop without distorting the image.

For basic point and shoot discount digital cameras, there are a few different categories in which they are broken up. Subcompacts are pretty popular and are the standard choice. They are small enough to fit in a pocket and light enough to carry wherever you like, but are lacking in many controls and features. They can only zoom so much, and have other basic features for different photo types, lighting, timers, and other controls you'd expect to see. They are often the most affordable of all the types.

Superzooms allow a zoom of 15x or greater. They usually include manual controls but are among the most expensive of the point and shoot digital cameras. These are great if you plan on doing more with your camera than just quick snapshots.

Advanced point and shoots have non detachable lenses but a lot more manual controls than you would find in a basic. They also allow external flashes and compatibility with RAW files. They are lighter and smaller than cheap digital SLR cameras.

Many digital cameras now come with the option of recording video. They aren't as crystal clear as actual camcorders, but they get the job done pretty decently. If you want to be able to have both mediums but don't need the best video on the market, then look for a digital camera with both.

Keep in mind the kind of photography you'll be doing. Do you go to a lot of concerts and need something that will work well in low light? Do you take lots of family vacations and want a camera that does portraits well? Go for the kind of cheap digital cameras that will suit what you need the most. Take your time to compare each one so you know you are getting exactly the right model for you.
