With over 300 million people in this country, there is a huge amount of garbage and waste, sitting in landfills, polluting the environment. Everyone should try to do his part to protect the environment; one of the simplest solutions is to invest in garbage disposals. Not only can they make the planet just a tad greener, they're extremely convenient when it's cleanup time. Garbage disposals are incredibly convenient since they do not occupy counter space. They attach under sinks and are great for kitchen sinks single bowl or double bowl. Garbage disposals will take up a bit of space under the sink so you need to make sure there is sufficient room. Have a plumber take a look before purchasing and installing. There are primarily two types of disposers. The first is a continuous feed and anything that slides down the drain will trigger the mechanism to begin grinding the waste. The second type, a batch feed, you must manually turn on after loading the drain and applying a plug. The second option is much safer, especially if you have children; but the first type is far more convenient. Capacity and power are key specs to look at when choosing a unit. A ¾ HP motor is a popular choice among consumers because it's power lies just in the middle of compact and large. Compact models only have ¼ to ½ HP motors, while large units have extremely powerful 1 HP motors. Despite being "compact," smaller units offer plenty of destroying power for most families and they're perfect for those without much space under the sink. Unless you have a lot of waste and want to grind up lots of chicken bones, a large 1 HP motor isn't absolutely necessary. Even the strongest of motors can get clogged, usually because of stringy vegetables and not bones. A larger motor can reduce these hiccups, but look for stainless steel grinding parts and multi-stage systems for a better performance. In terms of other features, consider anti-jamming and noise reduction. Prices can range from as little as $150 to more than $500. More money doesn't equate better performance. Most consumers are happy staying in the area of $200 and won't be disappointed with their garbage disposal for their kitchen sinks double bowl. Remember to factor in service and warranties because you'll want to add both to avoid purchasing a whole new unit in a few years.
