Getting College Dorm Supplies, Blankets and All

We love our beds. We spend a good deal of our lives sleeping, so we want them to be comfortable, stylish and of course, clean. Cleaning your blankets and throws may seem as simple as throwing them into the washing machine, but depending on their material and if you are storing them after, there's ways you can clean them to make them last longer. For many, getting ready for college can be a stressful experience, especially for the parents. Your child is heading off to live on their own in a dorm and you want to make sure they are well equipped for it.

The first thing you need to consider is comfort. Dorm rooms are stripped of everything except for a dresser and a bed and mattress, usually. So you need get proper bedding. It's best to buy new bedding than to bring old, just so they can have something clean. When you buy a cotton sheet set, consider getting more than one so they don't have to waste time doing laundry constantly. You need the typical set; a fitted sheet, a regular cotton sheet to sleep under, a pillow case and a comforter.

Also consider fleece blankets and throws for when the weather gets cooler. Depending on where your child is heading off to college, it may be very cold winters that they aren't used to. A great throw will let them be warm at night as well as give them something to snuggle in while they study and watch television.

When it comes to electronics, see if you can check in with the future roommate about who is bringing what. That includes a television, a microwave, a DVD player, and any other major electronics that may be shared between the two students. They should have their own laptops for internet access as well as to use during class, if they should need it.

Toiletries are important and worth getting before they settle in, so they don't have to run out last minute to get a toothbrush or floss because they forgot. First aid should also be available, so band-aids, aspirin, antibiotic ointment, cough syrup and anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medicines should be the first things on the list. Other items you won't want to forget are a blow dryer, hair care products, tweezers, nail clippers and razors and shaving cream.

Don't forget easy storage to create more space. Dorm rooms can be very small so having storage bins for under the bed may be a good idea. Extra blankets and other bed set items can be stored here until the cotton sheet set needs to be changed. It's also a good place to store anything they may want hidden from plain view.

Getting ready for college can be a little bit of work but with all the proper essentials, the room will be outfitted and ready, and your child will be ready for the semester. If anything is forgotten, it can always be bought at a later time.
