When it rains it pours, and when it pours you often get thunder, lightning and hail along with it. When the appliances in my home decided to go on the fritz it all happened at the same time. First the dryer went, in a glorious mess that would cut my wardrobe in half. Soon after the washer flooded the whole laundry room. Not long after that the oven broke ruining a birthday cake, not to mention a weekend. Honestly in that moment I felt like the ceiling might has well of started to fall in. I was confused and angry and then the refrigerator stopped working. It was all too much to take. A small part of me wanted to just pick myself and leave. Go somewhere with no technology. Someplace quite where I could rise and fall with the sun and live off the land. I was sick of my modern amenities getting in the way, always requiring attention or repair. It was as if they were no longer working for me but I was working for them. So instead of dealing with Maytag oven repair or Whirlpool appliance repair, instead of a frigidaire repair I threw away a big pile of food from the fridge got in the car and started to drive. I was not going to let appliances run my life. I drove for a while and ended up at a public beach. I set up camp and ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. No need for appliances there, this cooler bag would suit me just fine. In the evening I looked up at the stars and considered my new appliance free existence. The idea was starting to get scary. What would I eat all the time? Man can't live on peanut butter and granola alone. My clothes I knew would begin to smell as it was hot, was I supposed to go find a washboard? Do people even still make washboards? As I sat there my concerns grew and grew. I found myself wondering "Just how expensive is Whirlpool over repair anyway?" and "Frigidaire repair might not be the worst thing in the world, I mean I did sign a lease on the house." Before I knew it my doubts had won. It had only been a few hours since I left my apartment in disgust but it felt like centuries. I needed to get back to my stuff and get on the phone with someone for Maytag repairs as soon as possible. So I loaded the car back up and after a pit stop at a fast food spot my destination was clear, appliance repair, here I come!
