Properly Storing Your Comics In Climate Controlled Storage

Your comic books have been with you since you were a kid. You might have binders full or a special folder with all the ones you bought over the years. But you have to move them now to a self storage location because you don't have any more space. So what is the best way to go about it?

First, get organized. You don't want to put all your comics together in one spot in the corner of your self storage unit and not know what is where. Separate your comics however is easiest. Maybe you want to separate by company, super hero, story line, or even how rare they are. Whatever it is that makes most sense for you, separate them into piles so you know what is going where.

Bag and board for each and every comic is important, and they should have already have been in them so for shame if they weren't! But you can still buy bags and boards at any comic book shop, often in bulk. They are very cheap, so make the investment. The board keeps your comic book straight, the bag keeps it from collecting dirt and dust. You can then have them vacuum sealed which may be the way to go for your rarest editions. The last thing you want is for them to be exposed. This will diminish the value, which you don't want if you'll ever consider selling them in the future.

A cool location is important, so climate controlled storage is key. Comic books should ideally be stored at 70 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, so make sure that's what your storage is set to. Don't just leave them there and hope for the best though, check up on them regularly to make sure there is no color bleeding, yellowing of pages or mildew. If you find any comic books are getting mildew and can't be saved, it's best to get rid of those books and not let them affect the rest of your clean collection. Make the sacrifice for the others!

If you value your comic books so much, take them to get graded by a professional. You might be surprised at what some of them are worth which can only encourage more to invest in climate controlled storage to make sure they stay safe until you are ready to sell. Or maybe you just want to hold on to them forever out of nostalgia. Either way, take care of your comic books and you'll be able to treasure them for years.
