The world wide web is ground zero for deals these days. You can't swing a cat on the old internet without slamming it into some sort of deal websites. It used to be, back in the 90's at least, that the internet was home to a number of message boards about only the nerdiest of pursuits. These days if there is a pursuit to be had it is on the internet for the taking. Electronics deals abound but that isn't all. You can find vintage toys or antique dolls, fish food and sports memorabilia, medical supplies, clothes, children's cough medicine, alcohol, organic foods, appliances, thermometers, boxes, canned foods from around the globe, dried ice, and the list goes on and on and on. These deal websites have it all and apparently somewhere someone wants to buy it all because the business of selling cheap on the internet is booming.
When the web first came to be it was an extremely small network of folks who had been on computers for years dreaming up ways to connect. They started message boards about things like Dungeons and Dragons or Monty Python. They disseminated lyrics of the Doors and discussed detailed algebra. Some of these nerd kings may occasionally resent this new found openness of the internet, but I'll bet they get pretty excited when an old hobbyist who would have never made it on to the web in the 80's and 90's shows up to sell off their lot of "in the package" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures. Why should they have all the fun?
They shouldn't and now they aren't. Thanks in no small part to websites dedicated to clothes, fashion, make up, perfume and jewelery deals, the internet is no boy's club. Thank god for that. The openness of the internet and it's ability to allow people to know a persons interior before their exterior has likely been helpful in getting the nerds of the world into the comforting and affectionate arms of love. Online shopping deals for many of today's less web savvy patrons of the internet was the gateway drug that allowed social networking and by proxy online dating to prosper.
So there you have it. If you are dating someone from the internet it is likely that you have online shopping deals to thank in some way. Maybe not directly but certainly indirectly. Electronics deals may have split open a nerd world and made it a place for everyone but in a way wasn't that what the nerd always wanted.
