Years, pass seasons change, we grow. We grow emotionally, we grow intellectually, we grow into ourselves. Growth is not always positive. Some of our growth will be in the belly region. We may grow hair we never expected in places we never thought of. We may grow confused about the things our children, and then our grandchildren, and then our great grandchildren, are interested in or do. But we grow, at least inside more wholly ourselves with time. This could be a good thing or a bad thing, it depends on what kind of an attitude we have and what we hope to offer the world around us. For some the process of aging is positive, offering us tranquility and confidence in who we are and what we are able to do. In others aging can be a bad thing, making us grow angrier and less enjoyable to be around to whoever continues to be with us and attends to our needs.
Aging it is important to remember is not simply a harsh reality towards the end of our lives. Instead it is a series of opportunities to get better and understand more. We are growing, and surecare for ourselves is harder to accommodate sometimes and our tranquility can often be interrupted by the harsh realities of our age, but the opportunity to reflect on what we have collected in experience on this planet is an incredibly valuable asset. The preservation of our specific set of life experiences and perspective depends on us sharing it with those around us. We are still thriving in our own ways even as parts of our physical selves become worn out our minds and what we have to offer will prevail.
Everyday I visit the local shops, I pick up the papers, I get some coffee and a bagel. I meet with friends and we discuss things that are going on. We are all as sharp as we were years ago. Sure some of us have canes and we all have some surprising girth in our belly areas but that doesn't make us any more or less valuable.
Who we are depends on who we choose to be. If we choose to prevail our influence will always mean something to those that are important to us. If we choose to wilt away and give up our mental freedom as our physical freedom reduces it's self we will allow our value to wilt away. The physical self can not be the be all end all. We have to much more to offer the world.
