Many people have discovered collecting as a hobby. Collecting watches is an especially great pastime, because there are such a vast variety of brands, styles and materials, and complications that you can focus on for your own collection. There are a few ways that you can get started. The first is to look at the watches you already own. Do you have several silver pieces, or maybe a couple of Cartier or Concord watches? Do you own watches with sub dials and chronographs? You may want to look at what you already have and build from there, as your collection has already been started! And you already know what kind of brands and styles you do favor so you can decide on additional pieces from there. You'll also want to start off with something simple, a broad idea. Don't delve into rare or limited edition watches just yet, as it can be a difficult collection to build and cost more than you may be looking to spend. Try focusing on a single brand, like collecting only Glam Rock watches, and you'll find you have plenty of options. Choosing by metal type or specific material is another way you can broaden your collection. You can stick with rose gold or stainless steel, or you may choose to focus on watches that incorporate diamonds or other special materials. This is a good way to branch out among multiple brands. You can also choose by style. Whether you choose sports watches, luxury dress watches, or even old school style pocket watches, zone in on the style you love the most. Don't forget how versatile fashion watches can be; they have the broadest collection of styles, colors, and materials. EBay is a great site to peruse, as are other jewelry specific auction sites. You never know if a style that was discontinued will pop up because someone else has chosen to sell it. The internet is a wonderful market for collectors. Just always be sure to verify that what you are buying is the real thing, because some sellers will use tricky wording to sell replicas. You may also want to invest in jewelry boxes or display cases to keep your watches safe and to display them in a way that you can show them off and enjoy them. Always keep your watches separated in their display to avoid any scratching or damage caused by rubbing. Whatever path you choose for your collection, go with what you love. Before you know it, you'll have several impressive timepieces and your collection will be a source of pride.
