The Basics of Online Computer Shopping

Online computer shopping can be overwhelming. With so many options nowadays between netbooks, laptops and desktops, PC versus Mac, and all the different parts and accessories, your head may be spinning. But if you have an idea of all the basics before you dive in, you'll be better equipped to make an informed decision.

The first decision you need to make is PC or Mac. A lot of this is just user preference. Everyone has their reasons why they think one is better than another. Figure out which interface is easier for you, what applications you like better and how much you are looking to spend. Macs in general are pricier than a Windows PC.

Once you've decided what platform you want, then you need to break down whether you want a laptop, desktop, or netbook. Your online computer store should have an option of all three if it has anywhere near a good selection. A desktop is your go-to choice if you want something for the home. It's going to overall handle more memory, you can easily upgrade and exchange parts, and over all it's good for families or someone who wants a computer that's going to be able to run everything they need to.

A laptop works for the home and on the go, usually has a up to date graphics card at the time of purchase (but you cannot upgrade in the future) and has it's DVD drive for any programs or games you may want to install and use.

A netbook is a tinier version of a laptop, with just the basics you need to get work done on the go. Usually just a couple of pounds, they are low on memory and graphics but you can get any typing and internet surfing done. This is great for the business man or woman on the go who doesn't want to lug a laptop around.

Two of the most important things to then look at is internal memory and the processor. The internal memory is going to tell you how much space you have to install and run programs, save files and other media. The processor tells you how much processing power your computer has and essentially how fast it can run and how much it can handle at once.

Remember that every online computer store has customer service of some kind, whether through email or over the phone or live chat. Never hesitate to ask for help reading specs or suggestions on what model would be best for your needs.
