A Tower Of New Kitchen Appliances

It was a wedding and we knew we could not give cash. I had enjoyed a conversation with the bride at a party and could distinctly remember her saying that she felt gifts were no longer particularly personal and that people seemed too at ease with just throwing a wad of cash in an envelope and showing up for a free meal. It seemed like a fair assessment of modern wedding going. She also pointed out the tyranny of wedding registries. In her opinion if you could not be held responsible to come up with a thoughtful and useful gift for friends who were getting married, you had no place basking in their collective love. This bride had a lot of opinions.

I could not say I disagreed though. There is something cold about going to two people's declaration of love and commitment to one another with an envelope full of cash. That's why I decided to get a gift basket and load it up with a plethora of discount kitchen appliances. I then put the basket on a new chair I bought from a discount home furniture website and wrapped the whole thing in a very nice cellophane with a big ribbon wrapped around the whole thing. I don't think the bride and groom even noticed all of the new kitchen appliances I included in this menagerie. There was a panini press, a coffee maker, a new cheese greater, a waffle iron, an egg poacher, a blender, and I don't even think that's the whole collection.

When I saw the newlyweds faces I knew I had scored big points by really thinking about what would make a surprising and fun gift. Those discount kitchen appliances went a long way. It was like I had spent awhile prior to the wedding really thinking about what they might need and a fun way to present it. New kitchen appliances you see are a dime a dozen as wedding presents go, but presented in a basket on a piece of discount home furniture? Well that's just a fun time. Everyone at the wedding's gifts, especially that pile of cash filled envelopes paled in comparison to my mountain of thoughtfulness.

Wedding gifts are obviously not supposed to be a competition, and maybe I am gloating a little about how good mine was. Then again, if you had thought of the tower of new kitchen appliances and gone through with it, you would probably be pretty proud too.
