Guitar Pedals and Other Electric Guitar Accessories

Any guitar player knows that even after you purchase your dream guitar, your shopping endeavors are nowhere near done. In order to keep playing and having your music sound amazing, you're going to need certain accessories. Throughout your guitar playing days, you'll continue to spend money on the instrument you love. It's an investment, just like any other purchase and it doesn't stop once you buy the guitar.

If you own an electric guitar you will obviously need an amplifier. Even if you own a cheap guitar, buying a cheap amp will not make your situation or playing any better. And even if you are fortunate enough to have an amazing instrument, you could be limiting your sound with a lackluster amplifier. Tube amps give the purest sound and they are what the professionals use. However, they can be heavy and clunky, not to mention expensive. Solid state amps are actually the most common and they still produce excellent sound and at a much cheaper cost.

Guitar pedals are an important accessory to hone your creative skills. Of course a guitar will still sound great on its own, but by having pedals, a guitarist is able to expand and create new sounds that were never before possible. Versatility is the key. A distortion pedal, for instance, is practically a must-have for rock and heavy metal musicians. Likewise, a wah-wah pedal is fit for any style, but has long been a staple of classic rock music. With guitar pedals, you can create truly unique sounds effects. Acquire enough pedals and you'll eventually need a pedalboard to house them all. Capos and slides are good to have too and can change the sound of your instrument. When going from gig to gig, you need to protect your equipment. You'll want large, heavy duty cases for your amps and a case for your instrument. Gig bags are lightweight and easy to transport. These will do if you're going over to your friends house to jam. But if you're traveling across country in an unstable van, you'll want a hardshell case instead to protect your fine piece of equipment. Picks, strings, and cables are all items you'll need to replace frequently. Picks have a habit of being easily lost since they're so small, so it's usually best to buy these in bulk. Strings will need to be constantly replaced. The more you play, the more often you'll need to replace them. Cables are needed to hook up amps, guitar pedals, and any other equipment you have.

Unless you possess a perfect or relative-pitch ear, you'll want to invest in a tuner. They're inexpensive and easy to tote along. Stands and wall hangers make home storage easy so you don't accidentally knock over the guitar. And lastly, pick up some cleaner and dry cloths to keep your baby shining like new.
